New Interview of Jamie about "New Worlds" for "Red Carpet News TV"!

"New Worlds" tiene un montón de diferentes temas y subtextos. Que específicamente representa y trae tu personaje a la serie? 

Jamie: Creo que mi personaje Abe Goff representa una necesidad de cambio. Esa lucha por el cambio en el sentido de la injusticia de que las cosas no pueden preceder con Charles Stewart en el trono gobernando de una manera tiránica. Creo que el espectáculo de Abe muestra la frustración a través de la agresión y la violencia. Es rápido en usar sus puños porque hablando y en papeles obtiene nada muy rápido. El llega a sus sentidos después de un tiempo. Pero es esa necesidad de cambio como una necesidad que él representa.

¿Es el Secuestro del persona de Freya en su cumpleaños el mejor de los peor regalo que podrías haberle dado a ella? 

Jamie: El mejor! Quiero decir ¿qué chica no quiere ser arrastrada sobre sus pies en su cumpleaños. Es como estar en una fiesta de cumpleaños basura y alguien se te acerca y dice: Sé de una gran fiesta en la carretera. 

¿Es una serie llena de acción lo que ha determinado el aspecto de la producción? 

Jamie: Personalmente me encantó correr con una pistola. Es una buena parte de ella y es esencial para contar esta historia en particular porque fue un tiempo bastante brutal. Todo esto es parte pero el entrenamiento fue rápido y eficiente. Freya ni siquiera alcanzaba a apretar el gatillo de las armas al principio! Ella dijo que su mano nos fueron diseñadas para este tipo de cosas.

¿Cómo te sientes acerca de tu peinado? 

Jamie: Oh Jesús...El mio era en realidad mi pelo real en su mayor parte. Fue mi propia fregona rizada en la parte superior y luego se añadió una especie de rock de los 80 alrededor de la espalda y al lado para dar esa sensación de siglo 17. Fui lo suficientemente feliz. Pero, por suerte no tuve que hacer la peluca llena, aunque tuvimos que probarlo y tenía una imagen tomada de ellos para el camión de maquillaje. Dios no permita que se liberen!

¿Crees que la gente va a ver un paralelismo entre los acontecimientos en el show y lo que está sucediendo en el mundo hoy? 

Jamie: La inestabilidad política y los disturbios civiles es una constante en cualquier sociedad. Obviamente lo manejamos de manera diferente ahora. Nosotros no corremos alrededor disparando a la gente con quienes estamos en desacuerdo. En algún sentido muy básico no creo que sea nada más que eso. Tenemos cosas que no nos hacen felices por la forma en que el país es gobernado. Todos en esta sala tendrían una queja acerca de cómo se ejecuta este país. Esto fue lo mismo en el siglo 17, por lo que en un nivel muy obvio eso es lo que estamos hablando.

Su compañero de reparto Joe dice que cree que su personaje podría ser comparado con un moderno Russell Brand, ¿estás de acuerdo? 

Jamie: Estoy mucho mas en campo que Russell Brand, no creo en realidad que pensaba mucho en Russell Brand. Me gustaba su escritura, sobre todo las cosas de deportes... ¿Por qué estoy hablando de esto?. A pesar de que fue una referencia inteligente por Joe, bueno, tal vez no tan inteligente. Hay tal vez cinco o seis personas que yo probablemente habría pensado antes de llegué a Brand.

El Show es muy divertido para ver. Que fue lo más divertido de hacer dado algunos de los temas serios?

Jamie: Joe estaba muy serio. Lo pasamos de maravilla , fue un buen golpe. Es curioso, porque aunque Alice y yo nunca tuvimos ninguna escena juntos, acabamos de pasar el rato en sesiones fotográficas y cosas y pretender que estamos muy cerca. A veces no tienes suerte con el cast, sin dar nombres, a veces terminas con las personas que no están realmente en su longitud de onda y no se acercan a interpretar de la misma manera, entonces estas atascado con esas personas por 3 o 4 meses. Pero nosotros tuvimos la suerte de verdad en esto. Charles Martin nuestro director es muy divertido y marcó la pauta. Obviamente estamos consiguiendo el trabajo hecho, pero tienes permitido divertirte en el trabajo. Hubiera dejado de hacer esto si yo no encontré esta entretención. Por supuesto, la naturaleza de esta historia es que nosotros estamos luchando por nuestras vidas y no hay mucho en juego, es un tema muy importante, pero todavía estamos corriendo por el bosque con nuestros compañeros de tener una buena grieta.

¿Crees que el espectáculo hará a la audiencia más joven querer dedicarse a la política más? 
Jamie: Es curioso, porque creo que esperas de que la gente va a ver los paralelismos entre lo que sucedía entonces y lo que está sucediendo ahora. Eso fue, obviamente, una razón enorme para el director y escritor querer hacer este drama. Pero algunas personas no se ven eso. Tengo amigos que ven televisión sólo por los efectos visuales, los encantadores trajes y la música agradable. Mucha gente no mira más allá de eso me atrevo a decir. Eso es un problema.

Felicidades por su nominacion a IFTA por "The Fall". Es ese tipo de éxito especialmente satisfactorio para ti? 

Jamie: Gracias. Es agradable ser reconocido de esa manera. Presenté un IFTA el año pasado y estaba aterrorizado. Me capitule en el escenario y tenía una sorpresa. Pero dije que no volvería a menos que me nominaran, así que estoy especialmente contento por eso. Pero la vida es buena hasta el momento! 

¿Ha sido el proyecto mas que una lección de historia para ti?

Jamie: Obviamente esta parte de la historia no estaba en el plan de estudios en la escuela en Irlanda del Norte. Así que yo no estaba consciente de nada de eso realmente. 

¿Cómo investigaste este período de la historia? 

Jamie: Joe y yo vimos todo Sex and the City box set dos veces. La box set pertenecía a Joe y pensé que realmente me ayudó con esto.

¿Es fácil de integrar una historia de amor en medio de todos los temas y acciones políticas? Jamie, ardes de forma natural o fue un esfuerzo concertado ?

Jamie: Estoy tratando de arder ahora...espera. (sonríe y se ríe) Pero sabes, el amor es muy esencial para contar una historia. Es muy importante para todos y todos el relacionarse con ella, es una cosa verdaderamente global. Es algo que por lo general todos hemos estado involucrado. Por lo tanto yo creo que siempre es una parte esencial de cualquier historia . En él se destacan aún más la diferencia entre el mundo del personaje. Es esa clásica situación amante de la estrella -cruzados que un tipo escribió una vez. Fue muy necesario para contar la historia .

El amor distrae a estos personajes también, haciéndolos quizás no tan enfocados. Es como cuando tu pareja empieza a salir con alguien y de repente no lo ves tanto y comienzas a odiarlo. Es similar a eso.

¿Te gustaron los trajes y guardaste algo de eso?

Jamie: Nos hicieron tanto correr y básicamente Abe corre por todas partes. Pero los zapatos no tienen suela en todo y no hay soporte. Están hechos de piel de oveja o algún tipo de piel. Así que por supuesto yo no he robado nada de eso. Yo quería tomar una ballesta que quería tomar, pero el armero era muy quisquilloso respecto a eso, así que no tuve que tomar eso.

New Worlds has a lot of different themes and subtexts, what does your character specifically represent and bring to the series?

Jamie: I think my character Abe Goff represents a need for change. That fight for change in the sense of injustice that things can’t precede with Charles Stewart on the throne ruling in a tyrannical way. I think Abe show shows frustration through aggression and violence. He’s quick to use his fists because talking and papers get you nowhere fast really. He sort of comes to his senses after a while. But it’s that need for change as a necessity that he represents.

Is Kidnapping Freya’s character on her birthday the best of worst present you could have given her?

Jamie: Best! I mean what girl doesn’t want to be swept off her feet on her birthday. It’s like being at a crap birthday party and someone comes up to you and says I know a great party up the road.

It’s an action packed series what was particular aspect of production like?

Jamie: I personally loved running around with a gun. It’s a good side of it and it’s essential to tell this particular story because it was a fairly brutal time. It’s all part of I but the training was fast and efficient. Freya couldn’t even manage to pull the trigger on the weapons at first! She said her hand’s weren’t designed for this sort of thing.

How did you feel about your hairstyle?

Jamie: Oh jesus… Mine was actually my real hair for the most part. It was my own curly mop on top and then we added a sort of 80’s rock thing around the back and side to give that 17th century feel. I was happy enough. But thankfully I didn’t have to do the full periwig, although we did try them on and had a picture taken in them for the makeup truck. God forbid they get released!

Do you think people will see parallels between the events in the show and what is happening in the world today?

Jamie: Political unrest and civil unrest is a constant in any society. Obviously we handle it differently now. We don’t run around shooting people we disagree with. In some very basic sense I don’t think it’s anything more than that. We have things that don’t make us happy about the way the country is run. Everyone in this room would have a grievance about how this country is run. This was the same in the 17th century, so on a very obvious level that’s what we’re talking about.

Your co-star Joe says he thinks your character could be compared to a modern day Russell Brand, do you agree?

Jamie: I’m slightly more camp than Russell Brand, I don’t actually think I thought about Russell Brand much. I liked his writing, mostly sports stuff…. why am I talking about this. Though it was a clever reference by Joe, well maybe not That clever. There’s maybe five of six people I probably would have thought of before I got to Brand.

The show is great fun to watch was it as much fun to make given some of the serious subject matter?

Jamie: Joe was very serious. We had a ball, it was a good crack. It’s funny though because Alice and I never had any scenes together, we just hang out on photo-shoots and things and pretend that we’re really close. Sometimes you don’t luck out with cast, without naming names, sometimes you just end up with people who aren’t really on your wavelength and don’t approach the game the same way, then you’re stuck with those people for 3 or 4 months. But we did get genuinely lucky on this. Charles Martin our director is good fun and set the tone. Obviously we’re getting the work done but you’re allowed to have fun at work. I’d just stop doing this if I didn’t find this fun. Of course the nature of this story I that we’re fighting for our lives and there’s a lot at stake, it’s a very important subject, but we’re still running around the woods with our mates having a good crack.

Do you think the show will make a younger audience want to engage in politics more?

Jamie: It’s funny because I think you hope that people are going to see the parallels between what was happening then and what’s happening now. That was obviously a massive reason for the director and writer wanting to make this drama. But then some people don’t look into that. I have friends who watch television just for the visuals, the lovely costumes and nice music. A lot of people don’t look beyond that I’m afraid to say. That’s a problem.

Congratulation on your IFTA nomination for The Fall is that kind of success particular satisfying for you?

Jamie: Thanks. It’s nice to be recognized in that way. I presented an IFTA last year and I was terrified. I capitulated on stage and had a shocker. But I said I wouldn’t go back unless I was nominated so I’m especially pleased about that. But life is good at the moment!

Has the project been much of a history lesson for you?

Jamie: Obviously this part of History wasn’t on the curriculum in school in Northern Ireland. So I wasn’t aware of any of it really.

How did you research this period of history?

Jamie: Joe and I watched all of the Sex and the City box set twice. The box set belonged to Joe and I thought that really helped with this…

How easy is it to integrate a love story in among all the political themes and action? Jamie do you naturally smolder or was that a concerted effort?

Jamie: I’m trying to smoulder now… hold on. (grins and laughs) But you know, love is very essential to tell a story. It’s very important to everyone and everyone relates to it, it’s a truly global thing. It’s something that usually we’ve all been involved in. So I just think it’s always an essential part of any story. It highlights even more the difference between the character’s worlds. It’s that classic star-crossed lover situation that some guy wrote about once. It was very necessary to tell the story.

Love distracts these characters as well, making them maybe not as focused. It’s like when your mate starts dating someone and all of a sudden you don’t see him as much and you start to hate him. It’s similar to that.

Did you like your costumes and did you keep any of it?

Jamie: We did so much running and basically Abe sprints everywhere. But the shoes have no sole at all and no support. They’re made of sheep skin or some kind of skin. So of course I didn’t steal any of that. I did want to take a crossbow that I wanted to take but the armorer was very fussy about it so I didn’t get to take that.
